Darren Carter is a man of many talents, accomplishments,
surprises--and nicknames. Lets take em in reverse order.
Among the nicknames or aliases hell answer to, or at least
be unsurprised to hear uttered in his direction: Rooster,
Fireball, Opie, Gallo &
Shady Side. The surprises? Well, the most
notable one--relative to most of those nicknames which obviously
acknowledge that Carter is a fair-skinned, freckled redhead--is
that hes Latino: Indeed, as his bio notes--and, not coincidentally,
our first awareness of him on any significant level of the comedy--his
first big break was appearing at the inaugural Latino
Laugh Festival in San Antonio (some of which was broadcast by Showtime).
Along those lines--as we move into the accomplishments
part of our opening spiel--he also made a couple of appearances
on Galavisions well-known and well-watched show, Que
Locos. Certainly Carters most prominent stand-up TV
credit is The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Hes
also a solid presence on the BET network, having performed several
times on its stand-up showcase Comic View and become
a regular player on its variety show The Way We Do it.
Plus, theres some movie credits to the mans resume--all
of which, collectively, should at least partly address the talents
portion of our opening salvo. Of course, there are more details
and more credits to the Darren Carter saga. And it should probably
go without saying that hes a very funny man, but in case it
doesnt he is.
