You could be excused for arriving at the snap
judgment—at least the misinformed assumption--that Dan Levy
is the son of Eugene Levy, the Canadian actor-writer-director-musician
known for his work in “SCTV,” in the “American
Pie” franchise and in the Christopher Guest mockumentary
films like “Waiting For Guffman” and “Best In
Show.” Hell, I made the same mistake. The reason I’m
recounting that here is that it’s actually something of
an odd, backasswards compliment to this Dan Levy, who’s
NOT Eugene Levy’s son. That is, I figured a guy this bright,
gifted and multi-talented had the other Levy in his gene pool.
Wrong, but not entirely bad-wrong. Here’s the scoop on this
Dan Levy: while attending Emerson College, he launched his stand-up
career and it’s not clear how much time he spent on his
studies compared with how much time he spent on his stand-up,
but what is clear is that only a year or so later, in 2001, he
was selected to compete for the title of “Funniest College
Comedian In America” at HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival--a
title he won. He’s since gone on to make appearances at
the Just For Laughs International Comedy Festival, and on such
television shows as Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend”
and CBS’ “The Late, Late Show.” He’s also
hosted shows on Comedy Central and MTV, written and/or starred
in or produced other series and pilots. And between working on
those projects, he tours this country as a comedian whose sharply-crafted
material and warm, conversational delivery consistently wins over
audiences. So, I’m not saying all Levys are exceptionally
funny, but I am saying this one is. With Brendon Walsh.
